A hardy, assertive little dog, the Lhasa Apso is intelligent and spirited. His keen hearing and sense of who is friend and who is foe make him a great watchdog. Since he has a loud, persistent bark, intruders often feel the dog is much larger.
A Lhasa Apso is affectionate and devoted to his master. If trained with positive reinforcement and motivational techniques, he can be quite obedient. However, he needs a firm and dominant owner.
The Lhasa Apso dislikes being alone, but he loves to travel and travels well. Many will not tolerate children, especially those who are rough, noisy or poorly behaved.
